What information and tools does a channel page on Filmot show?

A channel page shows the information Filmot has stored for one YouTube channel, derived from publicly available video and channel data. Open /channel/ followed by its UC channel ID, use the link in a green channel tag, or find it through Channel Search.

The page includes:

  • A channel card with its stored subscriber and video counts, plus a historical subscriber chart when enough observations exist.
  • A search box with Auto for automatic captions, Manual for manual subtitles and a title-search button, all restricted to that channel.
  • A word cloud of characteristic terms. Click a word to find related channels or search the channel's captions for it.
  • A video list with 100 records per page and a Next Page button. Rows include available subtitle-language links, a half-star Partial data indicator when applicable, and links to YouTube and the Internet Archive.
  • Metadata/Sort, which opens the channel's videos in metadata search ordered by upload date, views or duration, and Filter videos for available or unavailable records.

The information is incomplete and approximate: the list reflects only the videos Filmot has discovered, and the counts, chart and word cloud are indicative snapshots rather than current YouTube statistics or a complete profile of the creator.

How is a channel's word cloud generated, and can it use a specific time period?

A channel's word cloud shows the words that are characteristic of that channel, not simply its most frequent words. The most common words, such as "the", "to", "and" or "you", are frequent on every channel, so they would say little about a particular channel's content.

Filmot builds it by comparing the vocabulary of the channel's recent subtitles with the overall subtitle collection in the same language. A word appears when it is noticeably more common on the channel than in general, and a larger word reflects both how often the channel uses it and how distinctive it is for that channel.

Because the word cloud is based on the channel's most recent subtitles, there is no option to limit it to an earlier or custom time period or date range. Treat it as an approximate impression of the channel's vocabulary rather than a complete or exact analysis.

Can I find other channels that often use a particular word?

Yes. A channel's word cloud highlights terms that are characteristic of its automatic subtitles or captions. Click a word to open a menu with two options:

  • Other channels for the word: find channels where the same term is characteristic.
  • Search this channel for the word: run a subtitle search restricted to that channel.

You can also open Word Cloud Search under More and enter a word directly. Characteristic words reflect a channel's vocabulary compared with the wider corpus, rather than simply its most frequent terms.
