1942年12月、
December 1942.
ソ連軍はヴェルフニー・マモン村沿いでドン川を渡河中でした。
Soviet forces were crossing the river Don near the village of Verkhniy Mamon.
最後に川を渡る車両のひとつは、ドイツ軍の恐れるKV-1重戦車でした。
One of the last ones to cross was the terror of German army - a KV-1 heavy tank.
偶然の事故か、運転手の操縦ミスか、この車両は凍結した丸太から滑落してしまいます。
Either by accident or a driver's mistake, the vehicle slipped off the frozen logs.
しかし、攻勢の最中に、この戦車を引き上げる余裕はなく、
There was no time to get it out during the offensive.
車輌は放置されたまま戦争は終結しました。
The war ended.
1946年夏に、穀物運搬渡し船が航行中に沈みかけました。
In the summer of 1946 a grain barge was almost sunk near the crossing site.
調べてみると、忘れ去られていた戦車の砲身が船底に穴が開けていたことが判明し、
It turned out that its bottom had been ripped open by the gun barrel of a forgotten tank.
運航の妨げにならないよう、この大戦の「亡霊」は爆破されました。
This “ghost” of the war was blown up so it wouldn't get in the way of shipping.
それから70年…この戦車を蘇らせることが決まりました。
70 years later the decision was made to bring the tank back to life…
しかしそれにはまず、この車輌を発見する必要があります。

引き上げ準備
Preparations
戦車の引き上げは、レッカー車につなげて引っ張って完了、というわけにはいきません。
Getting the tank out doesn't mean just hooking it to a tow-truck and pulling it out.
我々の大まかな試算では、少なくとも 300トンの牽引力が必要です。
By our rough calculations we'll need at least three hundred tons of pulling power.
牽引用アンカーを埋めることから始める必要がありました。各アンカーには150トンまでの力に耐えます。
We had to start with burying anchors, each one allowing us to hold one hundred and fifty tons.

This got the first KV out - a present from the director of Kirov factory, back in 2003.

It was used for pulling out most of the tanks.

He's in charge of technical matters with winches, cables and blocks.
チームにとって替えの効かない大切な存在です。
That makes him irreplaceable in our team.
僕がイゴールと出会ったのは、穴にはまったある車輌の困難な引き上げ作業の時でした。
I once met Igor during a very hard extraction of a vehicle that was stuck in an excavation pit.
私も参加してみたいと思いました。
I really liked what I saw.
彼は我々の所にやってきて、器具の使い方や難しい引き上げ作業を学びました。
He came to learn how we work with the equipment and do the hard extractions.
彼は仕事を覚えるのがとても速く、半年でトラック、ケーブル、牽引ブロックを使いこなせるようになりました。
He proved to be a very quick learner and in six months he was able to get a truck, cables and blocks.
このため、我々は彼をこう呼んでいます。「曹長どの」ってね。
Because of that we decided to call him - warrant officer.

We are now near an automatic winch,
これは重機械を持ち上げるために特別に設計・製造されました。
which was specially designed and built for lifting heavy machinery.
このエンジンは YaMZ-238で、240馬力あります。
Here we have a YaMZ-238 engine which gives us 240 horsepower.
トランスミッション、クラッチ、1～5速のギアチェンジで、引き上げ速度を調整できます。
Transmission, clutch, gear shifting from first to fifth so we can regulate the pulling speed,
5速で素早く引き上げることも、1速での最高トルクで重い物をゆっくり持ち上げることもできます。
pull fast on the fifth gear or have a hard pull with maximum torque on the first one.
スロットル、これはウィンチの回転方向を制御するギアボックスで、レバーが付いています。
Throttle, here is the gearbox which regulates the turn direction and the winch, it also has a lever -
ここからケーブルが出てきて、反対側から入っていきます。
this is the cable going out and to the other side is the cable going in.
みんななかよくやっていますし、それぞれがちゃんと自分の仕事をこなします。
We get along very well, and everyone does their job.
僕は地上でのリフト作業をこなします。

このケーブルは古い橋脚の間を通っているんだ。
The cable goes right through the old poles.
そしてこっちが枝のついた古いナラの木。
And here is an old oak with branches.
ナラの木と橋脚が張り付いてしまって、さらに戦車がそれに付いている。
We attached the oak onto the poles and the tank onto it.
この状況は…
We have a situation…
単純とは程遠いですね。
Not a simple situation.
どうするべきでしょう。
What do we do?
考えられる唯一の方法は、砂を洗い落として木を迂回することだね。
I think the only option is to just keep washing off the sand, and go around the oak.
もし装甲が外れたら木も一緒に引っ張ろう。ちょうどいいおまけだ。
And if the plate comes off and we pull out the oak as well it will just be a bonus.
リョーナのサウナ室の屋根に使えるな。
Lyonya will use it to cover the floor of his sauna.

Today was one of the hardest days in my work, because the divers have finished their part.

All we have to do now is pulling it to the shore.
ウィンチレバーを動かし、トラックも動かし、そしてロープも操ります。
I work the winch levers, the truck re-reeve the ropes,
そして、牽引が終わって自由になったら再び滑車装置を逆に動かします。
rework the tackles to reverse them when we remove the free tows.

From dawn till dusk, I have no strength left.

You can join everything together, get the rest up and I think it'll make a great exhibition item for Kubinka.

I will continue working in recovery.
