Can I download a video's subtitles as an SRT file with timestamps?

Yes. Open the video's side-by-side subtitles page, choose an available language and click Download SRT beside the language selector. Filmot produces an .srt file containing the collected caption lines with start and end times.

For multiple matching videos, subtitle and metadata search exports can include full subtitles as a selected column in CSV, Compact CSV, JSONL or ZIP, subject to export limits.

Downloaded subtitles remain subject to applicable copyright and other rights. Filmot does not grant permission to redistribute them.

How do I export search results, choose columns and create video or channel links?

Run a subtitle or metadata search and click Export. Choose CSV, Compact CSV, JSONL or ZIP, then select the columns you want, such as video ID, title, channel ID, channel name, upload date or view count. Stored descriptions are included only with patron benefits, and full subtitles can be selected where available.

To list a channel's known videos without matching title words, select the channel in metadata search, leave the title query empty and export the results. To export only videos whose captions contain particular words, use subtitle search with the channel selected.

Exports contain IDs rather than ready-made links:

  • For a video URL, append its video ID to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=.
  • For a channel URL, append its channel ID to https://www.youtube.com/channel/.

To produce a channel list, select the channel ID and name columns and deselect other columns if you do not need them. An export has one row per matching video, so the same channel can appear repeatedly; remove duplicate channel IDs in a spreadsheet if you need unique links.

Row limits apply to each export:

  • Without patron benefits: up to 60 rows from subtitle search or 100 rows from metadata search.
  • With patron benefits: up to 10,000 rows, or 2,500 when full subtitles are included.

Subtitle search also offers a Subtitle Timestamps Export option. Use Export embed urls to create links to matching moments on YouTube.

How can I export subtitles or matching videos from a YouTube channel?

Select a channel, run a search and use Export to download the matching results within your export limit.

  • Channel metadata and available full subtitles: open Metadata search, select the channel and run the search. A title query is not required. Choose the columns you need in the export dialog and include full subtitles if available.
  • Videos containing a spoken word or phrase: select the channel in subtitle search, enter your keywords and run the search. You can use operators such as "exact phrase" and | for alternatives, then export the matching videos and, if needed, their captions or transcripts.

Available formats include CSV, Compact CSV, JSONL and ZIP. Without patron benefits, one export contains up to 60 subtitle-search rows or 100 metadata-search rows, without descriptions. With patron benefits, the limit is up to 10,000 rows, or 2,500 when full subtitles are included.

Exports cannot retrieve videos outside Filmot's index or captions it has not collected. Exported content remains subject to applicable rights and usage terms.

Can Filmot download YouTube videos or video clips directly?

No. Filmot provides video metadata, subtitle text and links to YouTube, but does not download or distribute video or audio files.

Subtitle search can export links to matching moments. Open the export dialog, select the subtitle-timestamps export option and choose Export embed urls to create YouTube links with start and end times around each match. You can adjust the seconds included before and after the matching caption.

You can also export video IDs and other result columns in CSV, Compact CSV, JSONL or ZIP format. Any use or redistribution of the linked content remains subject to applicable rights and terms.

Why does my subtitle search export have fewer rows than the result count?

The search total is an estimate and may not equal the exact number of rows available for export. Exports also have row limits.

Without patron benefits, an export can contain up to 60 rows from subtitle search or 100 from metadata search. With patron benefits, the maximum is 10,000 rows, reduced to 2,500 when full subtitles are included.

Check Max Records in the export dialog to see the selected limit.

Does Filmot have a public API, and how do I get programmatic access?

Exports And APIapi Updated

Yes. Filmot offers a public, self-service API for searching its index and retrieving video and channel metadata, with subtitles where available.

To get access, sign in, open API Keys, accept the Terms of Service and create a key. Each account can have up to five active keys. Every account receives a monthly API credit allowance, and Patreon supporters receive larger allowances according to their tier.

The API documentation describes the endpoints, parameters, response fields and usage limits. Use the API for automated queries rather than loading the website's search pages with scripts.

API access does not include a full database download or bulk data feed. There is also no API endpoint for requesting that a video or channel be re-indexed. Supporters who want better channel coverage can add the channel to Prioritized Channels through the website.

How are Filmot API credits counted, and what happens when I run out?

Exports And APIapirate limits Updated

API requests consume credits according to the endpoint and its documented cost. Your allowance applies to a monthly billing period, and unused credits do not roll over. Patreon supporters receive larger allowances according to tier.

  • API Keys shows credits used, credits remaining and the reset time.
  • Successful responses include headers with the request cost, usage, remaining credits and allowance reset time.
  • A request that would exceed the remaining allowance is rejected with 429 Too Many Requests until the next billing period.

See the API documentation for current endpoint costs and limits. A Markdown version for scripts and AI agents is available at /api-documentation-md.

What endpoints does the Filmot API offer, and what does subtitle search return?

Exports And APIapi endpoints Updated

Filmot's public API provides these endpoints. The API documentation lists their parameters, output fields and usage limits:

  • getvideos: stored metadata and optional subtitles for specified video IDs.
  • getchannelvideos: recent videos from one or more channels.
  • getsubtitlesearch: subtitle, caption or transcript search with export formats.
  • getmetadatasearch: title and metadata search.
  • getchannels: channel profiles and analytics.
  • getsearchchannels: channel lookup by name, @handle or UC channel ID.
  • getadvancedchannelsearch: advanced channel search with filters such as channel creation date.

Subtitle search can return matching text snippets with their start times; snippets are enabled by default. Results can be sorted by criteria such as view count, upload date, duration or subtitle-text relevance.

To make requests, sign in and create an API key on API Keys. API access is subject to your account's allowance and the documented endpoint limits.

Is there an OpenAPI or Swagger specification for the Filmot API?

Exports And APIapiapi endpoints Updated

Yes. Filmot's API documentation is based on an OpenAPI specification available at /openapi.json. You can load the JSON into compatible API tools or client generators. A Markdown version for scripts and AI agents is available at /api-documentation-md.

Companion reference pages cover:

  • /api-documentation/search-syntax: subtitle and title expressions. Query strings must be URL-encoded.
  • /api-documentation/reference-values: accepted country IDs and subtitle language codes.

API calls require a key. Sign in and create one on API Keys.

Which language codes and country IDs should I use in Filmot API filters?

Use the values listed on Filmot's API Reference Values page. The API's country IDs and subtitle language codes should be taken from those tables rather than inferred from a country's name or a standard code list.

Countries use numeric IDs. For example, the reference lists the United States as 217, the United Kingdom as 153 and Brazil as 14; do not substitute US, GB or BR in a parameter that expects a country ID.

Subtitle languages use the codes in the language table, such as en for English, de for German and pt for Portuguese. Some values can be unexpected: Hebrew is listed as iw, while Chinese and Cantonese appear separately as zh and yue.

Check the API documentation or the OpenAPI specification for the parameter name, data type and representation the endpoint you are calling expects. The reference tables identify the accepted values; they do not replace the endpoint's request format or guarantee that every language has matching indexed videos.

If a filtered request returns no matches, verify the code or ID and try removing that filter before concluding that the underlying videos are missing.

Can the Filmot API return video metadata and subtitles for given video IDs?

Exports And APIapiapi endpoints Updated

Yes. The getvideos endpoint returns stored video metadata for one YouTube video ID or a comma-delimited list of IDs. Each record includes the video ID, upload date, duration, title, channel ID and channel name. Use the columns parameter to request additional fields, such as the stored description, view count, like count, category and subtitle, caption or transcript tracks. IDs that Filmot does not know are omitted from the response.

A request can contain up to 200 video IDs, or up to 10 when raw subtitles are requested. The related getchannelvideos endpoint returns recent videos for up to 10 channels identified by their UC channel IDs, with the same selectable fields.

Sign in and create an API key on API Keys after accepting the Terms of Service. See the API documentation for the complete parameters, limits and response format.

Can the Filmot API list videos from a channel with their titles, dates and links?

Exports And APIapiapi endpoints Updated

Yes. The getchannelvideos API endpoint returns recent videos for up to 10 channels per request, identified by their UC channel IDs. Each video record includes its ID, title, upload date, duration, channel ID and channel name. You can request additional fields, such as the stored description, view count and like count.

The response contains video IDs rather than ready-made YouTube URLs. To build a link, append the ID to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=.

A request returns at most 200 videos across the requested channels, reduced to 10 when raw subtitles are included. Use the page parameter to request further pages for each channel.

Create an API key on API Keys and consult the API documentation for the complete parameters and response format.

Can I filter Filmot API results by listed or unlisted status?

Yes. The /getmetadatasearch endpoint accepts an unlisted parameter: 1 selects records marked unlisted, 0 selects records marked listed, and -1 includes both. The related completeData parameter accepts 1 for complete records, 0 for partial records and -1 for both.

The /getchannelvideos and /getvideos endpoints do not have an unlisted filter. You can request isunlisted in their columns parameter to see the status recorded for each returned video.

Status information may be incomplete or outdated. Use an API key from API Keys and consult the API documentation for applicable limits and terms.

Can I get a full bulk export or data dump of Filmot's dataset?

Filmot's full metadata and subtitle dataset is not available as a bulk download.

You can retrieve specific search results in two ways:

  • Website exports: run a subtitle or metadata search and export the matching videos. Without patron benefits, the limits are 60 rows from subtitle search or 100 rows from metadata search. With patron benefits, an export can contain up to 10,000 rows, or 2,500 when full subtitles are included.
  • Public API: use the documented endpoints to search and retrieve video details and available captions programmatically, within your API allowance. Sign in and create a key on API Keys.

Exports and API requests are intended for retrieving search results and selected records, rather than copying the entire database. See the API documentation for programmatic access.
