Growing up, I had seen these masks

You know, there can be an awesome painting,

So when I first got into it,

all I wanted to do was sculpt masks all day long.

I had those strong memories from my childhood

You know, when I started to make the decision to...

Okay, I want to be a mask-maker, I want to sculpt masks,

it was a little scary because you have thoughts like,

Can this make money, and can I do something like that?

I kinda just pursued it and went with it,

Started to stay up all night long and work

And I kinda got in this routine and it's all I did.

I mean, I would do this for 13 hours a day.

I loved it so much I didn't care anymore

You know, I was learning something for the first time

and I had no clue what I was in for.

You'd think the concept,

and make a mold, and blah, blah, blah, it's all easy, right?

But all that got killed really quick with failure. (dramatic music)

Latex wasn't drying right,

I didn't know what I was doing making the molds.

Didn't even know how to mix the plaster properly.

So I was having a lot of different problems.

Not only did I waste most of the material I bought,

I was feeling like a failure, and it's that that tests you

Back then, I was just so driven.

I wasn't painting when I first started.

And then, eventually, I decided,

There's that magic in it, of the creation process,

and I can't imagine not doing it. (soothing music)

You know, when you pull out that first mask out of the mold,

You get that childlike feeling.

And that it looks like it can live and breathe.

Why I create them is exactly that,
