Es gibt drei Bücher in der Bibel, die zur Gattung der Weisheitsliteratur gehören
There are three books in the Bible that have come to be called the wisdom literature
Sprüche, Prediger und Hiob.
Proverbs, Ecclesiastes and Job
Und alle drei Bücher beschäftigen sich mit den selben Fragen.
and all these books are addressing the same set of questions
In was für einer Welt leben wir
What kind of world are we living in
und wie sieht ein gelungenes Leben aus in dieser Welt?
and what does it look like to live well in this world?
Also wie lebt man gut ?
so how to be good at life?
Genau! Jedes diese Bücher behandelt diese Fragen aus einer einzigartigen Perspektive
Yeah! So each of these books tackles these questions from a unique perspective
und es ist wichtig, dass man alle drei versteht, um eine ganzheitliche biblische Perspektive eines gelungenen Lebens zu bekommen.
and it's important to understand all of them to get a fully biblical perspective on the good life
Als ein Gedankenexperiment könnte man sich jedes dieser Bücher als eine Person vorstellen.
So as a thought experiment, you could actually imagine each of these books as a person
Sprüche wäre dann also diese brilliante junge Lehrerin
So Proverbs would be like this brilliant young teacher
und Prediger ein scharfsinniger Kritiker mittleren Alters
and Ecclesiastes the sharp middle-aged critic
und Hiob wäre der wetterfeste alte Mann, der schon viel gesehen hat.
and Job would be the weathered old man who seen a lot in his day

We're gonna start by meeting the book of Proverbs the brilliant teacher
Und sie ist nicht einfach nur klug. Sie weiß einfach alles, über Arbeit, Beziehungen, Sex, Spiritualität.
And she's not just smart she's smart about everything, work, relationships, sex, spirituality

So what makes her so smart?
Also! Sprüche kann Sachen sehen, welche die meisten Menschen nicht sehen.
Well! Proverbs can see things that most people don't see
Sie glaubt, dass es da so eine unsichtbare schöpferische Kraft im Universum gibt, welche die Menschen anleiten kann darüber, wie sie leben sollen.
She believes that there is an invisible creative force in the universe that can guide people and how they should live
Du kannst sie nicht sehen, wie du auch die Schwerkraft nicht sehen kannst, aber sie beeinflusst alles, was wir tun
You can't see it just like you can't see the gravity but it affects everything that we do
Und was genau ist diese Kraft?
So what's this force?
Im Hebräischen nennt man sie "chokmah" und das wird meistens übersetzt als "Weisheit".
In Hebrew, it's called chokma and it's usually gets translated into English as a wisdom
Es ist eine Eigenschaft Gottes, die Gott gebrauchte, um die Welt zu erschaffen.
It's an attribute of God that God used to create the world
Und "chokmah" wurde in alles hinein verflochten, in die Art, wie Dinge funktionieren.
and hokmah has been woven into the fabric of thing and how they work
Wo immer Menschen gute, gerechte oder weise Entscheidungen treffen, zapfen sie "chokmah" an.
So wherever people are making good or just or wise decisions they are tapping into chokma
Und immer wenn jemand eine schlechte Entscheidung trifft, arbeitet er gegen "chokmah".
and whenever someone is making a bad decision they're working against chokma
Genau! Oder wie es in Sprüche Kapitel 1 heisst:
Right! Or as it says in Proverbs chapter one
"Viele Dummköpfe täuschten sich selbst durch ihre Sorglosigkeit und gehen zugrunde, doch wer auf die Weisheit hört, lebt in Sicherheit".
the waywardness of fools will destroy them but the one who listens to wisdom lives in security
Es ist wie ein moralisches Gesetz des Universums.
So it's like a moral law of the universe
Ja! Es ist ein Ursache-Wirkung Prinzip, dem niemand entfliehen kann.
Yeah! It's a cause-effect pattern and no one can escape
und Sprüche personifiziert dies alles als eine Frau.
and Proverbs personifies all of this as a woman
Genau! Fräulein Weisheit!
Yeah! Lady wisdom
Exakt! Sie rennt durch die Welt und macht sich selbst verfügbar für jeden, der bereit ist, auf sie zu hören und zu lernen.
Right! She runs around the earth calling out making herself available to anyone who's willing to listen to her and to learn
Was zur zweiten Sache führt, die Sprüche glaubt, nämlich, dass jeder auf die Weisheit zugreifen kann
which leads to the second thing Proverbs believes that anyone can access
und mit ihr interagieren kann, um sich selbst oder anderen ein schönes Leben zu machen.
and interact with wisdom and use it to make the beautiful life for yourself or others

you can create with it like a designer
Ja, in der Tat, im Hebräischen bedeutet "chokmah" nicht bloß intellektuelles Wissen.
Yes, in fact, chokma in hebrew isn't simply intellectual knowledge
Das Wort wird auch verwendet, um einen talentierten Handwerker zu beschreiben, der in seinem Schaffen über sich hinauswächst.
The word is also used to describe the skilled artisan who excels at their craft like woodworking or stonemason
Du zeigst also, dass du "chokmah" hast, wenn du es anwendest und die Fähigkeit entwickelst, ein gelungenes Leben zu leben.
so you show you possess chokma when you put it to work and develop the skill of making a Good Life

OK! That makes sense. So let's do this. Let's go find some wisdom
Bevor du das tust, hat Sprüche noch etwas ganz wichtiges, das du überdenken solltest.
Before you do, Proverbs has one more really important thing to consider
"Chokmah" ist nicht einfach eine unpersönliche Kraft, es ist eine Eigenschaft von Gott selbst.
chokma isn't some impersonal force it's an attribute of God himself
Im Hebräischen Denken muss deine Suche nach Weisheit damit beginnen, was Sprüche die "Ehrfurcht vor Gott" nennt.
and so in Hebrew thought, your journey to becoming wise has to begin with what Proverbs called the Fear of the Lord
Es geht um einen gesunden Respekt vor Gottes Definition von Gut und Böse
It's this healthy respect for God's definition of good and evil
und wahre Weisheit bedeutet, diese Grenzen zu kennen und sie nicht zu überschreiten.
and true wisdom means learning those boundary lines and not crossing them

Now all those ideas you just unpacked are in chapters one through nine in Proverbs

but when I think of the book of Proverbs, I think of the collection of sayings

if I designed my life with these sayings, life is gonna be good
Ja! Oder wie Sprüche es sagt: Es gibt deinen Knochen Gesundheit, Wohlstand und ein langes und erfülltes Leben,
Yeah! or if proverbs puts it, it'll give health to your bones, prosperity, a long rich life
was ein ziemlich grosser Anspruch ist.
which is a really big claim
Aber man sieht, wie oft das der Fall ist.
but you can see how it's often the case
Weise Menschen machen es in der Regel besser, bei ihnen kommen die Dinge gut raus im Leben.
wise people, they tend to do better, things usually work out well for them in life
Und genau das ist das Versprechen und die Weisheit der Sprüche.
and so that is the promise and the wisdom of the book of Proverbs
Das Buch der Sprüche ist wirklich wundervoll. Wenn wir aber einen Schritt zurück gehen,
The book of Proverbs is really beautiful but if we take a step back
würden einige Leute sagen, dass es ein bisschen zu stark vereinfacht ist,
some people would argue it's a little too simplistic

cause sometimes horrible things happened to really wise people

and sometimes foolish people get rewarded
